TELPAS Testing
TELPAS will take place starting mid-February through mid-March. Your child will be pulled twice for testing during this window. Please see testing schedule below.
TELPAS stands for Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System. This assessment is designed to assess the progress that EB (emergent bilingual)/ESL students make in learning the English language. TELPAS fulfills ESSA requirements for assessing EB students in Kindergarten through grade 12 in four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. All EB students enrolled in Texas public schools are required to participate in TELPAS. EB students are required to be assessed annually with an English language proficiency assessment until they are eligible to exit the ESL program. To read more about TELPAS, please visit https://www.texasassessment.gov/telpas-about.html.
How can you help prepare your child for TELPAS? You can help to reinforce the reading and language skills that they are learning in the classroom at home through Summit K12. SummitK12 is a supplemental curriculum used to help ensure growth in all students in the four language domains as listed above. By having your child practice at home on SummitK12, not only will it reinforce and strengthen their reading and language skills, but also help them become familiar with the testing platform. Spending 45-60 minutes per week can help to close the gaps for our language learners.
How to log on to Summit K12? Students will log on through Clever. At home, students will go to www.clever.com/in/hisd and log on with their HISD credentials. See Clever instructions on our website here: https://www.houstonisd.org/domain/43220.
As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s success at Roberts!
