Roberts International Garden

The Roberts International Garden offers a peaceful place for students among fruit trees and butterfly-attracting plants.  Each classroom has an allotted "patch" where students take part in planting and harvesting of seasonal vegetables. Roberts Math Team

4th and 5th graders are eligible to join the Roberts Elementary Math Team. The Math Team is capped at 30 students. Team members must commit to attending weekly sessions and participating in all of the Math Olympiad competitions. In addition, they must follow all rules of the Roberts Math Team. Piano Lessons 

In addition to the music class that is part of the general curriculum, Roberts students may sign up at the beginning of each school year for piano lessons which are offered weekly during recess. KG-5th grade lessons will start in September. The fee is $400 for the entire school year. Lessons take place once a week during one of the recess times. Running Club

The Roberts Running Club meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:45 am, rain or shine, and this is open to all KG-5th grade students!  For more information, please see the Running Club page on the left navigation menu or email runningclub@robertspto.org. 
 

Spelling Bee 

The 2026-2027 School Bee season will be open in late September for 2nd-5th grade students. Communication will be sent home to students interested in the Spelling Bee. Students will first participate in a qualifier and if they pass the qualifier, they will move forward to participate in the School Spelling Bee. Once we have finalized the dates for the School Spelling Bee, parents of students participating in the School Spelling Bee will be invited to watch. An RSVP link will be sent out to parents at a later time.

Name That Book

Name That Book (NTB) is an academic competition with two teams: Junior NTB (2nd grade) and Grades 3–5 NTB. Students read and study only the books on the designated reading list in preparation for competition. Unlike a traditional book club, Name That Book focuses exclusively on the official reading list. Participation on both teams is by selection only. For more information on NTB, please reach out to our librarian, Ms. Nelson, at cnelson5@houstonisd.org. 

Rodeo Art

Our art teacher, Teacher Morales, leads our Rodeo Art Club. For more information, please email pedro.moralesberrios@houstonisd.org. 

Chess Club

The Roberts Chess Club is a coordination between PTO and the Chess coaches. The Chess Club meets twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-4:30 and 4:30-5:30, depending on your child's level. For more information or to sign up, please reach out to chessclub@robertspto.org. 

Choir

Our music teacher, Mr. Lacy, leads the afterschool Choir for grades 3-5. Auditions will be held for students interested. For more information, please email zachery.lacy@houstonisd.org.

Writers in the Schools (WITS)

New this year, we are partnering with Young Audience to offer a creative writing course afterschool to students in 2nd-5th grade. For more information, please reach out to Ms. Magee at smagee@witshouston.org.

Dance Company

The Roberts Dance Company is an award-winning Division 1 dance program for students in grades 3–5, directed by Roberts Elementary Dance Educator Andrea Winard. Rooted in the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy, the program provides meaningful artistic experiences that develop students as performers, leaders, and lifelong learners while fostering the IB Learner Profile. Students earn membership through a competitive audition process evaluated by professional dance judges. Since revitalizing the program three years ago, Ms. Winard has led the company to Division 1 recognition and numerous performance opportunities, including the Houston ISD State of the Schools Luncheon, MATCH, the Houston Literacy Festival, the HISD Dance Connect Film Festival, the HISD Dance Montage, the Elementary Dance Festival, and other school and community events throughout Houston.
